Highest frequency word: Education.
first “content” word: College.
What words appear most frequently?
College, Education, Job, Facts, Particular and Different.
Deleting words: When I deleted the two biggest words (College and Education), Wordle made "job" the biggest word. Reading and understanding the article, making "job" the biggest word would not agree with the preparation a University or College education gives towards being hired for a job/carreer.
Text 2. "My Blog"
Highest frequency word: Students.
first “content” word: Longboarding.
What words appear most frequently?
Students, longboarding, metadata, data, education and Xacti.
Deleting words: Surprisingly after removing the three biggest words (students, longboards, Metadata) I could still obtain enough information with the words left to figure out what my blog is about!
Text 3. "1984"
Highest frequency word: Winston.
first “content” word: Party.
What words appear most frequently?
Winston, One, Part, Time and Even.
Deleting words: I deleted: Winston, O'Brien and One, the Wordle left me confused. "1984" is a book about mind control. I would guess the Wordle now represents someones facebook comments on the party he/she had last night.
Text 4. "Commencement Speech"
Highest frequency word: Reply.
first “content” word: Posted
What words appear most frequently?
Reply, Posted, Replies, Private, New, Post and UFE
Deleting words: I deleted: Reply, Provate and posted. The speech looks more like a blog. No big words about the speeches content came up as one of the big words.
Text 5. "Representative Poetry Online"
Highest frequency word: Thou.
first “content” word: English
What words appear most frequently?
Department, English, Well, Thou, Department, Poems
Deleting words: I deleted: English and Department, the document looked like a critique of someones poem. The words given make it very easy to figure out what was the topic of the document.
Text 6. "Wall To Wall With Ethan Landau"
Highest frequency word: Like.
first “content” word: Comment.
What words appear most frequently?
Baron, Like, Comment, Ethan, LandauGabe
Deleting words: By deleting some of the big words i found that the wordle became useless. What was left was a bunch of dates. It seems like allot of the conversation was said in May.
Text 7. "Personal Essay"
Highest frequency word: Problem.
first “content” word: Solution.
What words appear most frequently?
Problem, Cars, Solution.
Deleting words: The document was on the cynics point of view of switching over to electric cars. When i took out the two biggest words: Problem and solution, the document took no side on the pros and cons of electric vehicles.
Text 8: "Thugz Mansion"
Highest frequency word: Place.
first “content” word: Mansion.
What words appear most frequently?
Place, Mansion, Spot, Heaven.
Deleting words: When I erased: Place and Mansion, the song still resembled gangster rap. Smaller words like chorus and verse make it easy to guess this is a song even without the two biggest words.
The big difference between "Wordle" and "tag crowd" is that "Tag Crowd" allows the user to specify the amount of words are shown on the screen, Wordle does not give the user this option.
Over all Wordle allows the user to be more creative with the over all product, but is looks everything when it comes to helping someone with their work? Although Tag Crowd, visually is less pleasing it gets the job done more efficiently than Wordle would.
I would like to see both "Wordle" and "Tag Cloud" to give the option of giving optional words for the big ones, so when it comes to writing an essay or document you can supplement the option the program gives you for that unwanted, overused word.

Gabe,
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see a bit more analysis about the wordles themselves. How might we use a wordle for text analysis? Why do you think that some wordles allowed you to understand the topic, while others didn't?
